Majestic 12
UNVERIFIED
Alleged secret committee of scientists, military leaders, and government officials established by President Truman in 1947 to investigate and manage UAP recovery operations following Roswell. Documents purportedly from MJ-12 surfaced in 1984 and remain among the most debated items in UAP research.
The Majestic 12 documents first surfaced in 1984 when filmmaker Jaime Shandera received an anonymous package containing undeveloped film of what appeared to be briefing papers for President Eisenhower. The papers described a 12-member panel, reportedly including Vannevar Bush, James Forrestal, and General Hoyt Vandenberg, established to oversee UAP recovery operations.
The FBI investigated the documents and concluded they were likely fabricated. Skeptics point to inconsistencies in formatting, dates, and terminology. Proponents argue the inconsistencies are deliberate misdirection and that supporting documents have been found in legitimate NARA archives.
The question of MJ-12's existence became more complex when UAP legislation passed in 2023 required disclosure of any programs involving the retrieval or study of non-human craft. Former intelligence official David Grusch testified to Congress that legacy programs matching the MJ-12 description did exist, though under different designations.
